How Gunsmith works

Up to 5 standard attachments per weapon, one per type, plus one Apex Attachment. Some Apex Attachments block attachment types while equipped; the builder removes blocked types and disables them until the Apex is off.

More about Gunsmith

Every primary weapon and every pistol has a Gunsmith. Launchers and the melee weapon only change appearance.
An attachment is unlocked once and then available on every weapon that accepts its type.
Activision's own post describes in-game bars for damage, range, accuracy, mobility and handling. They are not published as numbers, so this site does not list them. Community-reported stat changes per attachment are on the weapon pages, labelled that way. Why damage and the Gunsmith bars are not listed.

How this is sourced

Activision says Modern Warfare 4 has more than 500 standard attachments but has not published their names or their effects. The lists below hold the 615 that community sites report. They carry no performance numbers, and the weapons shown for a name are the ones the sources list it for, not an Activision compatibility list. Where the names come from. Why damage and the Gunsmith bars are not listed.

How many attachments can a Modern Warfare 4 weapon use?

Up to 5 standard attachments plus one Apex Attachment. The Apex Attachment is equipped separately and does not use one of the 5 slots.

How many attachment types does MW4 have?

Activision's launch weapon sheets name 15 attachment types: Optic, Muzzle, Barrel, Underbarrel, Magazine, Rear Grip, Stock, Laser, Ammunition, Comb, Bolt, Trigger Action, Guard, Cylinder, and Fire Mods. Each weapon accepts only some of them.

Do attachments have to be unlocked on every weapon?

No. Each attachment is unlocked once and is then available on every weapon that uses it. If a weapon level would award an attachment you already own, you skip that level with a Bonus Level Up.

What is Gunny?

Gunny is an optional build recommender inside Create-a-Class and the DMZ Forward Operating Base Gunsmith. It builds weapons from the attachments you have already unlocked and can cycle through close-range, balanced and long-range builds.

Which weapons cannot use attachments?

PILA, RPG-8, JOKR, PM-40 Anvil, and FSS Carbon Edge 1095. Launchers and the melee weapon only change appearance.

Where do the attachment names and stat changes come from?

Activision has not published them, and it has not published the numbers behind the in-game Gunsmith bars. This site lists 615 attachments that community sites report, each with its type, the weapons the sources list it for and, for 499 of them, the short type label or pros and cons the sources use. For 972 of the 1589 attachment-on-weapon pairs, CODMunity's game data lists how the attachment changes the weapon's stats; those changes are on the weapon pages as percentages of the base value. All of it is community-reported and unverified. Damage and time to kill are not listed.

Which standard attachments are known so far?

Activision says there are more than 500 and has not published them. Community sites report 615 across 28 weapons, unverified: 45 optic, 109 muzzle, 104 barrel, 20 underbarrel, 29 magazine, 73 rear grip, 77 stock, 24 laser, 97 ammunition, 8 comb, 11 bolt, 13 trigger action, 3 guard, and 2 cylinder. Every one is listed under its attachment type on this page, with a picture where one exists and a link to each weapon it was reported on.
