Modern Warfare 4 community tier lists
28 weapons ranked across 67 placements in two community lists: a Multiplayer ranking by time to kill and a DMZ PvP list. Nothing here is derived from official numbers.

Community-reportedEvery placement is community opinion, unverified and not an Activision statement; each list uses its own site's method, printed with the list.
How to read these lists
- The millisecond figure is the site's own calculation of time to kill, not a published value. Activision has not published damage or time to kill. Where these tiers come from.
- A base weapon and its Apex Attachment are ranked separately, because the Apex changes how the weapon behaves.
- Neither list ranks the launchers or the melee weapon, so PILA, RPG-8, JOKR, PM-40 Anvil, and FSS Carbon Edge 1095 are not on either list. A missing weapon is not a low tier.
- Weapons are linked to their page, where the official fire rate, magazine size, weapon levels and unlock level sit next to the community ranking.
Multiplayer tier list
ggranked · Multiplayer weapon tier list, launch 2026, last updated 24 October 2026. Method: Total TTK at 10-25 m: time to kill with one missed shot, plus ADS and sprint to fire. Each entry carries that figure in milliseconds. Source.
- Tier S, 4 entries
- Tier A, 8 entries
- Tier B, 11 entries
- Tier C, 10 entries
- Tier D, 6 entries
DMZ PvP tier list
DMZ Radar · DMZ PvP tier list, the first list made for DMZ (21 October 2026). Method: DMZ PvP tiers from the first list made for DMZ, checked against the Multiplayer lists of 20 October. The reasons on that list use Beta numbers. Source.
- Tier S, 6 entries
- Tier A, 8 entries
- Tier B, 7 entries
- Tier C, 3 entries
- Tier D, 4 entries
The arrow and word under a DMZ entry show how that list moved it: up since the previous list, down since the previous list, unchanged, and new to the list. It has no millisecond figure because that list does not publish one.
Where the two lists disagree
22 weapons sit at least one tier apart between the Multiplayer and the DMZ list. The two lists rank different things, a time to kill ranking for Multiplayer against fights between squads in DMZ, so the gaps are expected rather than a mistake. The gap column counts how far apart the two letters are, with S at the top.

What the official numbers say
Damage, time to kill and the Gunsmith bars are not published, so the published numbers cannot name a best weapon. They can name the leaders on the figures Activision does publish, which is what this table does, per weapon class.
| Class | Fastest fire rate | Largest magazine | Most weapon levels |
|---|---|---|---|
| assault rifles | M4, 810 RPM | Han 86, M4, Hyeon Burst, Kastov 762, and Axion, 30 rounds | Han 86, M4, and Patriot XMR, 72 levels |
| SMGs | PPSh-41, 1,110 RPM | PPSh-41, 71 rounds | ISO Nightshade, 64 levels |
| shotguns | Rezi 12, 150 RPM | Warlord, 14 rounds | Rezi 12 and Warlord, 60 levels |
| LMGs | Type 73, 821 RPM | FiNN LMG, 100 rounds | Type 73, 65 levels |
| marksman rifles | MAR-9, 315 RPM | MAR-9, 20 rounds | MAR-9, 73 levels |
| sniper rifles | Signal 50, 111 RPM | KG-7 Vulcan, 10 rounds | KG-7 Vulcan, 75 levels |
| pistols | SANG 9mm, 370 RPM | SANG 9mm, 13 rounds | Mojave .357, 44 levels |
| launchers | PM-40 Anvil, 38 RPM | PM-40 Anvil, 3 rounds | PILA, RPG-8, JOKR, and PM-40 Anvil, 46 levels |
Fire rate, magazine size and weapon levels are published per weapon in Activision's launch posts. A high fire rate does not mean a high tier: it says nothing about damage, range or recoil. Most weapon levels is the longest grind to the Apex Attachment in that class.
Frequently asked questions
Does COD Loadout have its own MW4 tier list?
No. Activision has not published damage, time to kill or the Gunsmith bars, so a tier list cannot be worked out from official numbers. This page shows the tier lists other sites publish, each with its own method and date, and marks them community-reported.
Which weapon is the best in Modern Warfare 4?
The two community lists on this page do not agree, so there is no single answer. ggranked puts VEL 46, ISO Nightshade, and M4 in its S tier for Multiplayer, and DMZ Radar puts Han 86, ISO Nightshade, Kastov 762, M4, PPSh-41, and X-58 Nyx in its S tier for DMZ. Both are community opinion, and 22 weapons sit at least one tier apart between them.
What do the tier letters mean?
S is the strongest and D the weakest, which is the usual community shorthand. The lists here come from two sites, so the letters mean what each of those sites decided; the method behind each list is printed above it.
How often do the MW4 tiers change?
With every patch, and each list carries its own date. Both lists on this page were read on the same day, and a list can move a weapon several tiers at once: the DMZ list moved the Han 86 and the PPSh-41 up into its S tier on 21 October.
